Many thanks to Mr Stray (sorry Mr Toaster) I bought the first edition - nice
blue banner on the front as shown by Stray -0 but nothing else - where was
the exclusive POD interview / ophotos etc? Something to tell the unknowing
masses how historical this strip is... Anyway nice to see her back in the
Standard. Mind you at 50p a strip (on lousy paper - well you know it won't
keep!) it's quite expensive if that is your only reason for buying the paper
:-)

Actually I was thinking of emailing their general-info email to see if
I could get any more 'back story' on why they decided to re-run the
strip, whether the timing tied in with anything else, etc.
Why don't I go ahead and do that, and if anyone else has any other
'in's, they can go ahead and do that too...
I'd love to know more about this!

I don't suppose anyone knows anyone in the Standard? To see how long this was
planned, how it came about, and that sort of stuff? I don't *think* I know
anyone down there, but I will ask around...

If they get back to me, then of course I will! :)
It turns out that there isn't a 'general info' email, so I sent it to
the most likely contact I could find and asked them to forward it on
to the appropriate person... we'll see what happens.

I've sent 2 or 3 e-mails on this topic which seem to have got stuck with the moderator and not got through.

In a nutshell: I have some spare copies of the Standard from Monday with the first MB strip and the banner on the
front page, if any collectors wish to have one. Will send at cost.

Secondly I wrote to the Standard being very positive but also pointing out that, at 3-column width, the strip is
too darned small and Holdaway's artwork does not look at its best.

How odd that we ere all taken by surprise! I even missed the Friday message here due to sheer busy-ness, but
happened to see the paper by good luck on Monday.

Best
Guy

Well, I didn't think it worth it to buy it again today, but I shall keep an
eye out for ones left behind in the train.

I was also very suprised at no interview with PoD, especially given the front
page trailer for the strip. I guess Modesty must still have some resonance
with the wider public, to occupy that position.

The Evening Standard, having advertised Modesty's return with a front page banner headline yesterday, is reprinting the first original strip La Machine, using Jim Holdaway's artwork from May 1963. I wonder if they will keep it going for another 38 years ?
