Hi guys
Happy holidays!
A couple of months ago, I suggested that we send in our favorite quotes from
the MB books, without the cite to see if others could pick them blind.
I promised to assemble all of the responses into a list, with a first cut at
the answers.
I¹ve been a bit distracted recently watching my net financial worth plummet
under the inspired care of the current U.S. Administration.
But I¹ve finally roused myself from that reverie and have assembled the
responses into the list below, along with my stab at the answers (where I
know them)
Here they are and everybody that knows the rest of the answers (or can
correct mine ...) weigh in!
Cheers
John

The Quotes

"I don't know about his skill. But I doubt if the plank's been cut yet that
he couldn't beat the hell out of."
³Couldn't spare old clothes, will this do?"
"If it came to the worst I could always eat you -- tastier than a land
rover, eh?"
"This lady, my west... very nice chess."
"Silly me. I could've taken 'em both at twenty feet with me knives, no
problem. In the back, even."
³Golitsyn's confidence had returned now. He could not recall having lost it,
even briefly, for fifteen years.²
"Break right, princess.²
"For a moment I thought you might actually split that infinitive."
"You'll just have to win this one, Willie."
"Garvin, I think you've earned a draw."
³Break right, princess.²
³Despair came very close.²
³It¹s cheaper², Willie said sagely.²

Folks. The missing contexts are

³Couldn't spare old clothes, will this do?" - The Zombie. The very last 3 picture strip number 10183. MB and Willy decide to dig up the Garamante jewels they buried in Taste for Death and deliver them to the Salvation Army. MB says "We can't give the Salvation Army jewels worth a billion without some sort of message" and Willy replies with the quote.

"If it came to the worst I could always eat you -- tastier than a Landrover, eh?" - The Stone Age Caper. Strip number 2519. Willy speaking to Mabel the camel he is riding. One of MB and Willly's Australian adventures.

"Golitsyn's confidence had returned now. He could not recall having lost it, even briefly, for fifteen years". Night of Morningstar Chapter 14.

Seasons Greetings and Happy Hols
Brummie
