The walk was just fabulous. Interesting, informative and fun - I just hadn't
expected to laugh so much! One of those days where you feel you have
suddenly made a bunch of new friends :-) Thankyou so much once again to
Julie for organising it and to Kim for a fab job as Guide - really well
done.
Thanks also Stray and Gretchen for your photos - really nice - and I like
the way you play them down Stray - and then they are a wow!
My own snaps are here
http://flickr.com/photos/straytoaster/sets/72157607934245346/
there's only 33 (and two of them are of men in red gowns at Westminster
Abbey - sorry, I liked them :-)
Thanks to everybody for a really nice day. You know.... we should do it
again sometime!

The weather was also kind, and I second all those sentiments!

*blush* Alas, I am a bit of a perfectionist, and never happy with my
bumblings. Especially when you see what others can do. Meh, the way of
the world.

Nothing wrong with that! I saw them, and almost took pics of them. But
then again, I could take pictures of college porters if I wanted
blokes in frock-coats.

Yes, we should! Let's not wait four years, though :)

Of course, working in central London, I am up for lunch (when not
overly busy) if anyone would like it.

Thanks to everyone for coming on Sat. It wouldn't have been possible if
people hadn't made the effort to attend - and some of you made a great
effort. I appreciate that.

I was thinking of what we could do if we got together again. There's
Maidenhead/Bray and trying to find a model for the Treadmill on the Thames.
We also didn't get to Bayswater Rd.

But I was thinking of other get togethers we had which were associated with
book signings. Emma and I had coffee after one. (For a long time there was a
picture of us with Peter at a web site. I couldn't find it recently.) We had
an Indian meal after another. I can't remember the names of any of those
that attended. But that got me thinking, I've met Peter O'Donnell 3 times at
book signings. I know he's "retired" but I was wondering if he'd be up for
one more public outing - not necessarily a book signing open to the public
but just a small group such as the one on Sat. Maybe lunch at Le Gavroche,
Langan's or Quaglino's? (I do like to dream big). Or we could go down to
Brighton (where he lives) and we could meet him at a pub/restaurant there so
he doesn't have to travel.

best, Julie

PS Anna, Julia, Alice, I decided I had to read Brideshead Revisited now and
see what Charles Ryder and Sebastian Flyte were really like. I'll let you
know.

Indeed so, a lot more effort than me. (Although getting up at 7am, while
later than I do during the week, *was* an effort for a Saturday.)

Good call. Although it is slightly more awkward to get to, I would be tempted
to drive down (which means no beer, or not much, alas).

Oh, a posh lunch would be *great*. I would deffo be up for that. If PoD isn't
up for an outing (given age/distance, meeting a bunch of randomly thrown
together fans), but is up for meeting in Brighton (we can dream, I guess)
hey, I concur. That would be cool. But might be awkward to lump a pile of
books down for signing, and would be a bit unfair (as I would be happy just
to listen to a few anecdotes, really). So I would only bring one novel for
signing, and if it didn't get done, I wouldn't be disappointed.

Ugh. A finely written book, for sure, evocative of a period in time, for
people we can't realate to, but I just didn't enjoy it. When I read it, years
ago. Beau Jeste, on the other hand, is *much* better...

Thanks all of you for posting all the wonderful photos from the walk. It
both look and sounds like you had a wonderful time, I really wish I could
have been there. And I must say that just by looking at your photos I
could actually see Modesty and Willie walking around on the patio of the
penthouse!

I would totally love to come to London (or Brighton) for the next
get-together, especially if Peter O’Donnell would take the time to meet
us. That would be absolutely amazing!!

Best wishes
Anna

I must say that the walk was one of the nicest things I´ve done lately. The day was superb weatherwise and Kim was a very good guide who did a good job placing a bit of Modesty´s world in the central London. Especially all the dinner and lunch places!

It was great to meet you all and I´m definitely open for getting together again if we can realize any of the ideas presented below.

Gretchen, I'm back to work tomorrow so can't do lunch but dinner would be ok
if you don't have plans. Or Friday I have half day at school so a late lunch
would be doable. What time do you leave?

If anyone else is around and wants to join us, let us know.

best, Julie

An MB lunch - that's a nice idea - what do you think Stray - Langans or
Quaglino's? Or should we join the Reform Club or Boodles - they let women
in now I hear! :-)
Seriously it's a nice idea - I suppose it's too far for Alice and Anna and
Julia to come just for lunch - pity :-( And does P'OD ever come to
London? or... does he go out to Lunch in Brighton... Would he like to meet
us ? We could go there. sorry just morning brain cells working - I'll be
quiet now :-)

I fancy Qaglino's, myself.

And that was their downfall, I bet. I wonder how much it is to join those
places. Although given I don't live in London, I think I will pass :)
