Hi all
I also wanted to ask for your help identifying some book covers: there
are several where I don't know the country of origin. If you scroll to
the bottom of
http://www.modestyblaisebooks.com/foreigncovers/_othercountries/othercountries.html
they're there...

there's also one comic cover, rather obscure, at the bottom of this page:
http://www.modestyblaisebooks.com/comiccovers/othercountries/comics_other.html

thanks!

Hi!

Counting for left to right an top to bottom of the unknown ones I can tell
that 2,3,4 is Danish. 2 & 3 is Sabertooth.
5 could be norwegian, swedish or danish
6 seems Dutch.

And the 2nd (red) norwegian cover is indeed A Taste for Death.

Regarding the third to last one, Historien om Modesty Blaise og hendes
bagmaend, I found a comicwiki page in Danish which under automatic
translation gives it as 'The story of Modesty Blaise and her backers'
but also gives an English translation anyway 'The Modesty Blaise Companion'.
Incidentally, just to prove the inherent dangers of automatic
translation, the name Jim Holdaway becomes automatically translated as
Jim Keep Away....

I wonder, then, is it a Danish version of the Modesty Blaise
Companion? Self-published perhaps... there's no publisher name or logo
on the front (and I'd been wondering about that).

Excuse the delay in replying, heavy work days. It could be an
unauthorised translation. My husband mentions that Brian Aldiss spoke
of coming across a translation of one of his novels of which he had been
unaware in an Italian airport....I guess, distances were bigger back in
those days, and people perhaps a little less scrupulous because of it!

The very last one is Dutch. Dodelijke Diamanten (Deadly Diamonds) is the
first novel (ie the one published in English as Modesty Blaise), which
is implied by the diamond reference, but confirmed by a page that gives
a detailed synopsis of the plot.

Hi,
The unidentified "rather obscure" comic cover is Stripoteka from
ex-Yugoslavia. I am not sure from which republic the cover is (today's
independent state).
I also have some doubts with current assignment of covers to Croatia and
Serbia. For example, "Politikin zabavnik" should be moved to Serbian
section for sure (it is cyrilic!)
Best,
Zeljko
