Personally, I would rather call it a thriller than a police procedural.

Hi all,
I just finished reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Steig Larsson and think that every MB fan everywhere will enjoy this book.
I realize this is a Modesty Blaise list, but given how popular our heroine is in Sweden, and given that I first discovered POD and MB as an exchange student in Sweden, I feel this plug is justified!
The book is a standard police procedural, as opposed to a thriller, which is how I'd classify MB, but it's really good. There is a strong and resourceful female character in the book, who is also deeply flawed, and so believable to a modern reader. Lisbeth Salander is not the super hero that MB is, but she overcomes and rises above a difficult beginning in life. And she has a strong moral code that I think Modesty and her fans would approve of.
The hero of the story, Mikael Blomqvist, is also flawed, but not unlike Willie Garvin, if you know what I mean...he's irresistible to women, knows it, and loves it.
Anyway, if you get the chance, take a look. The book is by Steig Larsson and the Swedish title is "Man som Hatar Kvinnor" which translates to "Men who Hate Women." I certainly understand why the American publisher changed the title to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."
And best of all, it's great beach reading for summer!
Diane
