I'm in Oregon, USA, and have been reading Modesty since I found the first
paperback with that great McGinniss cover in 1966. (I've been reading the
comics for only the last dozen years, maybe-the new Titan series is a joy.)

When you sit down to [The Wind in the Willows], don't

be so ridiculous as to suppose that you are sitting in

judgment on my taste, still less on the genius of Kenneth

Grahame. You are merely sitting sitting in judgment on

yourself . . . You may be worthy: I don't know. But it is

you who are on trial.

Hi all

Adding my 2 cents to the survey (and for once not criticizing the e-mail
system!), I'm in Calgary, Canada. I've been a fan of MB for at least 25
years now. My first exposure to her was the 1982 TV movie, which I vaguely
remember. After that, I read, of all things, an adaptation for young readers
of the first novel (undoubtedly the most violent "children's" book since
Little Red Riding Hood!). I eventually acquired all the novels, and I've
been a fan of the comic strip since Titan first started reprinting them in
the late 1980s. One of the coolest books in my collection is one of the
early Titan sets that has been autographed by POD himself.

Back in 1985, I picked up a copy of John Thaw reading I Had a Date with Lady
Janet, and ever since it's his voice I hear whenever I read Willie Garvin.
And Modesty, too, bizarrely enough.

Cheers!

Alex
